Personal development with transformative coaching methods

Transformative teaching advices… Humans, well, we struggle with that concept. We prefer negotiation over instincts. We struggle to accept that change is important and usually beautiful, if messy. Humans like to know exactly what we’re getting into before we take our first step. We want to know the outcome before we make any decisions – what’s in it for us? Imagine if a caterpillar refused to build a cocoon until it could have a say in what color its wings would be? Or until it was promised a certain flying speed? We might not have as many butterflies as we’d have anxious and negotiating larvae. This is why humans need a motivational coach.

What Does it Take to be a Transformational Coach? Fierceness is not aggressive or violent. It’s not an “in-your-face” way to confront people and get them to change. Fierceness is not telling people what to do and how to do it. The degree to which you are committed to the well-being of the people you serve will be the degree to which you are willing to be fiercely present, fiercely available and fiercely intentional in your word, deed and actions. Compassion is not sympathy or empathy, but its close. You are exercising compassion when you remain in your own shoes while witnessing another’s human challenges. You know through your own experience that taking on the task of being human is a huge endeavor. Without judgment and without pity, you allow your heart to open and remain open in the presence of the other. Reverence, respect and awe flow through you toward the individual with whom you are sitting; this person who is experiencing some form of human drama. You allow him or her dignity to walk their own unique path of struggles, challenges and joys, while in your heart you hold a space of love and a bittersweet pride, for you know that we all walk this path together. You feel for them and at the same time you remain detached.

Transformational Coaching has therefore evolved to utilise many different methodologies in a person-centred approach. We see methodology drawn from Psychodrama, Gestalt psychotherapy, Neuroscience, and others. No single methodology rules the roost, but all are drawn from in order to enable and sustain transformation. In practice, this means that transformational coaches are capable of working on a deeper and more exacting level. This kind of coaching can only happen on a bedrock of support, trust, and non-judgemental encouragement. Changing someone’s thinking can only happen in a very safe and secure environment. An interactive training/learning platform requires employees to respond to what they are learning. This forces them to integrate the learning content with their own unique way of thinking as they stop to reflect on the answer they should give or the path they should choose. Once the choice is made, the learner receives feedback to help them recognize what they know versus what they should know. At the same time, interactive software gives trainers the ability to assess the performance of individual learners spontaneously, and in real time. As an employee moves through the learning process, immediate feedback reinforces what they have learned and helps to steer them toward making better choices without compelling them to do so, as is often the case with traditional training and learning techniques.

It is well known that knowledge retention can be significantly improved with the addition of a new element in the learning process, even if it is something as simple as a drag and drop interaction. Blended learning for corporate training, by offering a variety of different approaches, can certainly make a big difference in this field. Blending face-to-face and online training delivers a much richer training experience and helps your employees retain the eLearning content much easier than they would if they were just offered a traditional approach. Blended learning for corporate training can have a profound impact on your organization’s business results, as it trains your workforce more effectively by optimizing their ability to obtain your eLearning objectives, and thus be able to develop their skill sets and boost their work performance.
