Wales travel destinations and quality Heathrow UK taxi from airport services

England travel destinations with quality Reading UK taxi from airport services? All nations share a currency and a love of sarcastic humour. In each you’ll get pints in pubs. You’ll always be offered fry-ups at breakfast (although I’d warn against always ordering one). Yet such similarities mask the differences. And that’s the thing about the United Kingdom: it’s only by touring the country as a whole that you grasp what makes each nation distinct. The sights en route aren’t too shabby either. Welcome to the best road trip in Europe. Start in London, the nation’s melting pot with its icons: the Tower of London and St Paul’s cathedral, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey for starters. Now for a spin through English landmarks: Windsor Castle and the dreaming spires of Oxford; Unesco-listed Stonehenge then Bath’s Regency streets and ancient Roman spa. I’d stretch my legs in the Cotswolds — touristy Bourton-on-the-Water or pretty Painswick — en route to Stratford-on-Avon. The scenery flexes its muscles as you go north towards medieval York (arrive via the Peak District) before crossing the Yorkshire Dales National Park into the Lake District: mountains, lakes, luxury. Perfect.

Situated just off the coast of the Scottish island of Staffa, Fingal’s Cave is a memorable sight. Dating back millions of years, the geological wonder was formed by the same lava flow that created Northern Ireland’s famous Giant’s Causeway just across the water. The cave’s incredible hexagonal basalt columns are so symmetrical that many believe that they are man-made. Stretching 227 feet (69m) above the ocean, Fingal’s Cave is one of Scotland’s most impressive natural attractions. Steeped in pagan history and immortalised in poetry and legend, the conical hill of Glastonbury Tor has been one of Britain’s most spiritual sites for over 1,000 years. Crowning the hill are the magnificent ruins of the roofless 14th-century St Michael’s Tower, with wonderful views across the Somerset countryside.

If you’re stopping over in Heathrow overnight in between your connecting flight, you’re probably going to want to get some shut-eye. You’ll find you’re in good company if you want to take a nap in the seating areas. However, if you’re after greater comfort check out the YOTELAIR hotel (terminal 4). There are pod-like cabins with comfortable memory foam mattresses with private bathroom facilities to enjoy. If you only want a few hours of sleep, this is a great option to freshen up after a nap. Heathrow is much more than an airport. You can shop until you drop. You’ll find all the big brands at part of the shopping experience. But, don’t concentrate on shopping while you’re there, and forget you’ve got a flight to catch.

Dating back to the thirteenth century, London’s oldest food market is a cornucopia of gourmet goodies. It used to highlight British produce but nowadays you’ll find global traders and street-food vendors: enjoy French confit-duck sandwiches, Ethiopian stews and scotch eggs (elevated, of course). Once notable for its crowds, the market now has a Covid-safe capacity. Arrive early (get coffee from Monmouth), pick up from Neal’s Yard Dairy, Brindisa and Bread Ahead, and head for a riverside picnic.

If you only have time to visit one smaller city in England, you couldn’t do much better than Bath. This remarkably beautiful city in Somerset boasts more fantastic tourist attractions than you could hope to visit in a day. While most famous for the magnificent 2,000-year-old Roman Baths built around the city’s rejuvenating hot springs, it’s equally well known for its honey-colored Georgian Townhouses, such as those located on Royal Crescent. Some 500 of the city’s buildings are considered of historical or architectural importance, a fact that has resulted in the entire city being granted World Heritage status. Bath makes an ideal location from which to explore some of England’s most stunning countryside, including the Avon Valley, the Mendip Hills, and countless other fantastic Somerset landmarks. There’s no one official “best” park in London you absolutely shouldn’t miss. They’re quite spread out, so where you are staying or visiting within London may dictate which you visit, as you may not want to travel for hours just to sit on some grass! Many of the most well-known ones are west of the city, though if you fire up Google Maps you’re likely to see a green patch nearby, wherever you are in London. Some of the largest and most well-known green spaces in London are the eight Royal Parks of London. These are former royal hunting grounds, which the general public can now enjoy.

This can really make your stay at the airport more human. All you have to do is to ask someone going in if they would not mind signing you in too. There are quite a few first class lounges which allow this. If you’d rather not ask a stranger for a quick favor, you can pay to get access yourself. This can cost between $30 – $50. You may prefer to get annual membership and pay for each visit. Some plans allow you to have access to 700 lounges worldwide. If you have a long wait while in transit, this is really worth it. These lounges are usually very comfortable and you will have access to better food, showers and also quiet areas if you need to sleep. See more info at this website.

OH MY GOD. When you arrive in the South Terminal make a beeline for the bathrooms on the right just before you hit Boots and M&S. They are incredible! Basically each stall has its own sink, hand drier, and little storage area. They are HUGE. I’m 99.9% sure that some of them are bigger than most London apartments. I know it’s a little weird to be so impressed with a bathroom, but I have a tiny bladder so I always pay attention to them. Good job to whoever designed these! I loved the TV, it’s in the wall at the foot of the bed so it makes it super cosy and enclosed. You can book rooms for just 4hrs if you have a transfer, or as long as you need. Standard cabins start from £37 per night.
