Pirelli is the next name in the list of best tire companies. Pirelli was founded in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli in Milan. Nowadays, it is well-known as one of the largest and oldest tire brands in the world, just behind Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear and Continental brands. Pirelli’s products have a good reputation for their high performance made for super cars. But you can also buy a Pirelli’s tire for your SUV or sedan as the tire isn’t as costly as you may think. The model was released in 2015 and is positioned as U-UHP (Ultra-Ultra High Performance). It received an asymmetric tread design and combines two popular products of the German concern: the simple SportContact 5P and oriented on racing tracks – ContiForceContact. Such concept was applied later in the Continental PremiumContact 6. To guarantee the reliability and high performance at speed up to 350 km/h the engineers used «Aralon 350» – a layer of nylon yarns interwoven with two layers of aramid, that is an additional layer of steel belt. It is a great choice for an aggressive and fast ride from one of the tire market leaders.
We tested the ContiPremiumContact in 2014, but Continental must have radically changed its design since then, because previously it only managed an unremarkable fifth place. It’s a remarkable turnaround, particularly as this design has already been replaced in some larger fitments by the PremiumContact 6. Its only real weakness was exposed in our rolling-resistance test, where fuel economy could be 3% worse than the best tyres in this category. Elsewhere, the Continental has clearly upped its game to the point where it took top spot on both handling tracks (level-pegging with the Hankook on the dry circuit). Our testers were particularly impressed with the car’s agility and direct responses, that made the car feel quite sporty with the Continentals fitted.
